The Right Time? NOW!

Leaving your comfort zone and the fear of change can be enough for anyone to be hesitant to take any sort of action, even if making certain changes will be of great benefit to your business in the long term. After all, not knowing what to expect often causes fear in the best of us. If you’re considering converting to a new software program, adding on supplemental products to your current system, or implementing a new service in your salon such as database hosting – having information readily available on such a change will help turn your feelings of apprehension into ones of optimism.

Arming yourself with a list of questions for your software vendor ahead of time will help you to obtain the information that you need:

  • Will I have a dedicated project manager that will oversee the entire process, while following a detailed project plan?
  • Is training on the products available to my staff and I?
  • Is the training methodology based on my business model specifically, ensuring that  I will get the most out of the program (or am I left to figure it all out on my own)?
  • Is technical support readily available after I “go live”?

These are all important questions that you will want to ask up front as making an informed decision will help to minimize any adversity to change that you might be feeling. The time of year that you incorporate new software products and services is also imperative, as doing so during the heart of “busy season” may not be the best choice for you if you’re already anxious about making the leap.

To ensure successful implementation, you will want to make sure that you do so within a timeframe where both you and the members of your team are readily available throughout the entire process. A vital component of implementing a new system or an added feature to your existing system is a pilot program.  Piloting something new consistently produces an efficient method of training not only for yourself but for your staff too.  Just as you might be somewhat fearful of making a change, they likely are too.  If you keep them informed and provide them with a platform in order to familiarize themselves with the system before it’s deployed into a live environment, they will surely be more receptive to the change.  Most importantly, the ability to do so when they aren’t engrossed in the exhilarating trenches of the season will surely result in great appreciation from your team.
